Colorado State’s Long-Distance Squad to Compete at Mt. Sac and Bryan Clay
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Not all Rams will be enjoying this weekend's home meet, the Doug Max Invitational, but with good reason as the long-distance contingent will be competing in two trademark meets on the west coast in the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational.Â
Â
Conveniently, the two meets are nine miles apart and Colorado State's hotel is located smack in the middle of both. However, with races occurring at the same time on Thursday, head distance coach Art Siemers will take a group to the campus of Azusa Pacific for the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Athletic Stadium, while assistant coach Andrew Epperson will usher a group of Rams to the famed Hilmer Lodge Facility for the 62nd running of the Mt. SAC Relays.
Â
The first event with CSU involvement will be the men's 800-meter race at 4:30 p.m. MT at Bryan Clay, while CSU's action at Mt. SAC doesn't get going until 6:15 p.m. MT. Running goes well into the night on both sides with the last Ram in action being Mason Brown in the men's 10K at 10:40 p.m. MT in the Mt. SAC meet.
Â
All of Thursday's races at Azusa consist of the 800 and 5000, while the steeplechase and 10K will be located at Mt. SAC. On Friday, the Rams will just be at the Bryan Clay Invitational and entered to compete in the 1500.
Â
The 47-page entry list for the Bryan Clay Invite accurately shows the importance and sheer size of the meet. For instance, there are 190+ entries in both 800s, 325+ entries in the 5Ks and 440+ entries in Friday's 1500s with schools literally ranging from Academy of Arts, a DII school in San Francisco, to Wyoming and conferences all over the country.
Â
After this weekend, but mainly Friday, the distance section of the NCAA Performance List will shake up tremendously thanks to these two meets. When just looking at these events this season, the Rams have tallied 13 top-20 school marks on the women's side, featuring two records, while the men have obtained seven top-20 marks in school history.
