Colorado State Concludes First of Two Home Meets on the Season

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Winning half of the meet's events gave Colorado State enough bright spots in Saturday's Doug Max Invitational at Jack Christiansen Track.

With only Northern Colorado, Wyoming, Chadron State and UC Colorado Springs joining the Rams, the competition yielded 20 wins in the annual home meet that honors former student-athlete, coach and administrator Doug Max.

The Rams won six of the possible eight throwing events including all four on the women's side. Michaela Hawkins tossed a 174'6'' in her discus win, which moved her up to 14th all-time in CSU history and is 19th in the NCAA West list for this season. On the men's side, Avery Lux measured a 194'0'' in the hammer to register a personal record that improved his 17th all-time mark in school history.

The track highlight came in the men's 200 meters as the Rams crossed 1-2-3 with all PRs. Kelley Stephens led the way with a 20.92 for a share of third all-time on CSU's list plus is 32nd in the NCAA West list for the season. Jack Cauble and Tom Willems followed with times of 21.32 and 21.36, respectively, for the 12th and 13th-best marks on the school.

In all 24 PRs were obtained by CSU student-athletes and five top-20 school marks. The Colorado State track and field program will be back in action next weekend for its second home meet, the Jack Christiansen Invitational, starting Friday and going through Saturday.
