Colorado State Hosts its second home meet in as many weeks

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Six college teams intermixed with five high school teams plus Colorado State's Senior Recognition makes for an eventful Jack Christiansen Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Jack Christiansen Track.

Although the vast majority of the Jack Christiansen Invitational is on Saturday, the hammer throw will be Friday's precursor starting at 12 p.m. for the men with the women to follow. All events on Saturday will start at 10 a.m. following the National Anthem at 9:45 a.m.

The event is open to the public, but spectators must stay outside of the track and warmup areas. Live stream link is available at http://CSURams.com/Live and live results at https://csura.ms/3L5jPS3.

Teams set to compete in the college portion include Wyoming, Colorado Mountain College, Black Hills State, Air Force, South Dakota Mines and the host Rams. In the two-day meet, local high schools will be competing intermittently in separate events. High schools that will converge on the college track include Poudre, Heritage Christian, Fossil Ridge, Fort Collins HS and Rocky Mountain.

The starting gun will go off at 12:45 p.m. for the inaugural Fritz Fulton Memorial men's 110-meter hurdle race. Fulton competed for the Rams from 1985-89 with his future wife, Nancy, and later went on to be a fixture in the track and field realm around Colorado as a coach. Their son, John, is a current sprinter for the Rams. Fritz passed away from colon cancer in early February.

Twenty-six seniors will line up on the track and be recognized at 2:05 p.m. in the annual senior recognition ceremony, highlighting their time in the Green and Gold.

The namesake of the invitational and track – Jack Christiansen – was a star student-athlete for the track and football teams from 1948-51. He won three conference championships in the quarter mile. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions and was a part of a defensive backfield nicknamed "Chris' Crew" that helped secure multiple league titles. After his playing career, he went on to become the head coach at Stanford University and the San Francisco 49ers. He passed way in 1986; two years later Colorado State University named its new track facility "Jack Christiansen Track" in his honor. The 1988 CSU Hall of Fame inductee is also in three other Hall of Fames, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The Rams have racked up 58 top-20 school marks including 20 within the top 5 and four school records. On the NCAA Outdoor Performance List, the Rams have 37 total marks in the top 50 between the women and men.

NCAA West Outdoor Performance List Top-50 (Colorado State)
The top 48 competitors from the NCAA West will vie to place in the top 12 and earn a berth to the NCAA Championships on June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore. The NCAA East mirrors this as well, making the field at nationals 24 for each event. One exception is the multis (heptathlon/decathlon) as the nation's top 24 will skip the regional meet and earn a bid to the NCAAs.
