Up first is the Jon Messick Invitational at home this weekend

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the first time in program history, Colorado State will be represented at the prestigious ITA All-American Championships, held this year in Cary, N.C.

"We are pleased to have four players qualify for ITA All-American Championships," CSU head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We have some talented players who can compete with the top players in the country. It will be fun to watch them take advantage of this opportunity."

All of the Rams qualifiers – two doubles teams and a singles player – were selected as qualifiers, giving them the opportunity to play into the main draw. That portion of the tournament runs Oct. 3-4, with the main draw running Oct. 5-9. The pairings of Emily Dush and Sarka Richterova and Zara Lennon and Radka Buzkova will take the court, as will Buzkova as a singles player.

Buzkova and Richterova both made the ITA Mountain Regional final last year, albeit with different partners. It was an unusual time for the Rams, but Buzkova and partner Matea Mihaljevic beating Richterova and Somer Dalla-Bona. Both teams advanced to the ITA Fall Nationals, the first Rams to do so.

For the ITA All-American Championships, the singles scoring will be best-of-three sets with no-ad scoring. Qualifying doubles will be scored as eight-game pro sets with no-ad scoring, with a tiebreak at seven-all. It will make for a busy week for all of them, who will also take part in the Jon Messick Invitational starting Friday and running through Sunday.

The eight-team event at the CSU Tennis Complex includes Colorado, Denver, New Mexico, Utah State, South Dakota, Weber State and Wyoming. Friday's play begins at 10 a.m., starting with doubles matches with singles to follow. Saturday and Sunday both begin at 9 a.m.

"After a great weekend at the Bedford Cup, we were able to focus on a few areas to improve," Tran said. "It will be great to see what progress we've made and face some competitive teams. We are excited for two opportunities to compete. We are hosting our first home invitational in honor of former coach Jon Messick. CSU tennis wouldn't be what it is without him."
