Fight Like a Ram: CSU Partners With UCHealth To Again Honor Cancer Warriors

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In conjunction with UCHealth the Fight Like a Ram program returns for the fourth season to Colorado State men's and women's basketball. Once again, this year CSU and UCHealth partner to recognize and honor Northern Colorado cancer patients.

Players from both teams will don jerseys with the name of one of the Cancer Warriors on the back instead of their standard name as a part of the initiative.

Colorado State's women's Fight Like a Ram game is slated for Saturday, January 21 against UNLV at 1 pm, with the men's game on February 4 against Utah State at 6 pm.

Along with the gameday recognition, both programs will take part in a hospital visit, a special zoom call with the Cancer Warriors and a meet and greet at a practice.

"The Fight Like a Ram event has been a very meaningful event for our program," CSU head men's coach Niko Medved said. "Our guys take great pride in representing the Cancer Warriors on their jerseys, they know they are playing for something that is bigger than themselves or CSU. Fight Like a Ram is a great way to support and connect with our community. We are thrilled to be able to do it again this season."

"The "Fight Like a Ram" games where CSU and the UCHealth team up to honor all whose lives have been touched by cancer are such a remarkable experience for everyone in the arena - from cancer survivors and their loved ones to players, coaches and the fans," said Kathleen Michie, UCHealth Cancer Center Oncology Services Program Manager.

"At some point or another, each of our patients involved sheds tears of gratitude - either when they are told they have been nominated, see their name on a jersey, meet their player or receive the autographed framed jersey with their name on the back. It is truly unbelievable and unforgettable for all."

The impact of the game is felt from both programs as women's head coach Ryun Williams has seen firsthand.

"This is a game that has had an extra meaning to all of us over the last few years," Williams said. "It means more when you are representing more than just our University and this year, that is taken to another level with our CSU family being involved. This is more than just a game; it is something that reminds us that, while basketball is very important to all of us, the health and well-being of family, friends and our community is what matters most."
