Colorado State looks to continue strong start to 2023
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Track and Field team will compete at the Colorado Invitational all day Friday as the Rams take their second trip to Boulder in just two weeks.
Â
Colorado State will look to build on its last two impressive outings as the Rams broke two facility records the last time they competed at the Colorado Indoor Practice Facility, Friday, January 13. The Rams also boasted eight first place finishes at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invitational last weekend.
Â
A new face to the Rams will especially look to continue her strong start as mid-season transfer Taye Raymond has already written her name in CSU history after just two meets in a Ram uniform. The sophomore recorded the second farthest long jump mark in school history last weekend at UCCS enroute to winning the event for Colorado State. Her mark of 6.20 meters also ranks twelfth in the country.
Â
Another key transfer for Colorado State this season has been Mya Lesnar. Lesnar won the women's shot put last time out and currently has the thirteenth farthest throw in the country of 16.58 meters. The full roster of dominant Ram throwers will be in action Friday as the trio of Lesnar, Gabby McDonald and Michaela Hawkins will look to sweep the women's shot put podium for the third meet in a row and junior Mariano Kis looks to win the shot put for the third meet in a row.
Â
Running events will begin at 4 p.m. with the men's 60-meter hurdles. Headlining the Rams on the track includes senior Emily Chaston who won the women's mile at the Potts Invitational two weeks ago. This time around, Chaston will compete in the women's 3000-meter run, an event in which she currently holds the fifth fastest time in school history.
Â
Fifth-year Ryan Birkmeier will compete in the men's 800-meter run as he currently ranks first in the conference and eighth in the mountain region after his performance at the Potts Invitational, January 14, where he recorded a time of 1:52.13.
