Rams Run Strong Outing at Colorado Invitational

Lesnar wins both throwing events for Colorado State
BOULDER, Colo. – The Colorado State track and field team finished the month of January on a high note at the Colorado Invitational Friday afternoon as the Rams look to continue their momentum into February with the 2023 Indoor Mountain West Championship meet less than a month away.

Mya Lesnar started out the day for the Rams with a season best performance in both the women's weight throw and shot put. The sophomore first won the weight throw with a mark of 19.72 meters, which ranks 33rd in the country. She was followed close behind by teammate Michaela Hawkins who set a personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 19.38 meter.

Lesnar finished up the day by winning the women's shot put with a throw of 16.63 meters. This first-place mark set a facility record at the Colorado IPF, currently ranks fourteenth in the country and was the fourth farthest throw in school history. Teammates Hawkins and Gabby McDonald followed Lesnar in close fashion as McDonald placed second and Hawkins placed third.

The dominant Rams' throwing team also saw Mariano Kis win the men's shot put for Colorado State with a mark of 17.05 meters.

On the track, Colorado State junior Grace Goldsworthy won the gold as she finished first in the women's 400-meter with a time of 55.85 seconds. The Rams also saw great performances out of their distance athletes with Sarah Carter, Annabel Stafford and Emily Chaston all placing in the top three respectively in the women's 3000-meter Invitational. Quinn McConnell rounded out the first-place Rams with a win in the women's 800-meter.

The Rams will return to action next weekend as their indoor season continues at the Invitational at the Peak, hosted by Air Force next Friday.
