Colorado State Finishes Split Day at Air Force and Mines

Rams field events and multi’s remain dominant
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State track and field team split forces Friday afternoon as a majority of the team competed at the Invitational at the Peak, hosted by Air Force, while the Rams' group of multi's competed in the pentathlon and heptathlon at the Colorado School of Mines.

Competing in only their second full multi of the season, the small group of Ram athletes participating in the pentathlon and heptathlon at the Colorado School of Mines included Drew Thompson, Mateo Munoz, Cameron Collins, Sharde Johnson, Tatum Bailey and Ella Thomas.

Johnson finished the top Ram in Golden Friday afternoon as the fifth-year senior completed the pentathlon in second place with a score of 3,578, good for the second-best score in the conference this season, only following teammate Lexie Keller. Bailey finished the second pentathlon of her young career with a score of 2,985 points in seventh place.

Thompson led the way for the men in the heptathlon as he finished day one in third place with a score of 2,883 points. Munoz followed close behind with 2,772 points and Collins with 2,515 points, good for fifth and sixth respectively. The heptathlon will wrap up tomorrow with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run.

At the Invitational at the Peak, the Rams brought home nine first place finishes:
Day two of the Mines Winter Classic and Multi involved three Colorado State heptathletes looking ot finish what they started Friday morning with three more events remaining in the heptathlon.
Freshman Mateo Munoz finished the day making the jump from fifth place to placing second with consistent performances across all three events. He was the top Ram in the pole vault as he placed second in the event with a mark of 4.20 meters. Munoz finished the day with a career best 4,814 points in the heptathlon.
Teammates Cameron Collins and Drew Thompson finished fourth and seventh respectively. Collins' best event was the high jump where he cleared 1.84 meters as he finished the heptathlon with 4,347 points and Thompson's best event was the 60-meter dash where he finished second with a time of 7.10 seconds, enroute to scoring 4,219 total points.
The Colorado State track and field team will next compete in Albuquerque at the Don Kirby Invitational hosted by New Mexico next weekend.

- Mya Lesnar put up the 14th best throw in the country in the shot put, winning it with a mark of 17.05, her new personal best.
- Carsen Bruns won the men's 400-meter with a time of 49.69 seconds.
- Jackson Morris won the men's shot put with a throw of 16.69 meters.
