Rams Favored in Mountain West Championship

Colorado State women are voted to win the title, voted on by league coaches
FORT COLLINS – Come Friday morning in Idaho, the Colorado State cross country program and first-year head coach Kelly Hart will be running for titles. Ahead of the Mountain West Championship hosted by Boise State at Eagle Island State Park, the women's squad was voted to claim the crown voted on by the league's coaches, earning all possible 10 first-place votes.

The women will look to be crowned for the second time and the first since 2007, which was the last time a program other than New Mexico has won the women's title. The men's squad was voted to place sixth by the coach's and will race for their second championship and first since 2017. The men have had three induvial champions and the women have had one.

Heading into Friday, the women are ranked No. 25 in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll – moving up three spots last week. The men are No. 10 in the Mountain Regional (fifth in the Mountain West), while the women are No. 5, which leads the conference.

The Rams will have seven total runners from the 2022 MW Championship competing on Friday - Men: Tom Oates, Mason Brown, Lars Mitchel; and Women: Sarah Carter, Quinn McConnell, Emily Chaston, Anna Petr

In 2022, Sarah Carter earned All-Mountain West, as well as Mason Brown, Lars Mitchel and Tom Oates.

The Mountain West Cross Country Championships will start with the men's 8k race at 10:15 am. MT, while the women's 6k race begins at 11 a.m. MT. Both championship races will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
