Wilkinson Propels into Top 10

Colorado State men’s golf picks up its third top 5 finish of the season
ERIE – Sophomore Matthew Wilkinson rolled his momentum from Monday into Tuesday along with his fair share of putts helping push him into the top 10 at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite. The Centennial native matched his collegiate best effort with a 5-under, 67 during the final round.
Wilkinson was one of three Rams to finish in the top 30 tying for sixth while teammates Connor Jones and Christoph Bleier finished tied for 11th and 29th, respectively.
The trio helped CSU pick up its third top 5 finish of the season tying for third as a team with UTEP. The Rams finished the tournament 10-under.
Two strings of three straight birdies helped Wilkinson on the day. His first birdie string came at the turn as he birdied holes 7-9 to go out with a 2-under 34. He also closed his round well with birdies on holes 15-17. Over the final 27 holes of the tournament, he played at an impressive 9-under.
Jones posted the second-best round of the day for CSU with a 1-over, 73. After making the turn at two-over he had a strong back nine with a trio of birdies including driving the green on the 364 yard, par 4, 17th.
Jay Pabin and Rasmus Hjelm each posted 2-over, 74s on the day.
Colorado State has one more fall tournament on the docket, October 30-31 at the Cal Poly Invitational.
