Colorado State to travel to CSU Pueblo to open outdoor season

FORT COLLINS, Colo. –  As the weather begins to heat up, the Colorado State Track and Field team is taking its talents outside as the outdoor track and field season begins March 24.

The Rams will kick off their outdoor season at the Spank Blasing Invitational, hosted by CSU Pueblo March 24 and 25. Events will start Friday at 2 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and wrap up with the men's triple jump. Saturday will be a much busier day with both field events and track events taking place starting at 10 a.m.

Colorado State found much success throughout its indoor season and the team hopes to translate that success to the outdoor cycle. The women's team is fresh off being crowned the 2023 Indoor Mountain West Champions – successfully defending their title from the previous year. On the other side, the men had another strong team finish as they placed second in the Mountain West – edging out third place by nearly 30 points.

The success of the women's team at the Mountain West Championships allowed three Rams to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet and represent Colorado State on the national level. Sarah Carter, Lexie Keller, and Gabi McDonald sported the green and gold for the Rams and they did not disappoint. Carter finished nineth in the women's 5,000 meter run, falling just one place short of point scoring, and Keller finished tenth in the pentathlon. In a close contest, McDonald fell just short of the top ten, landing herself a final place of twelfth with a throw of 53' 1.75" in the shot put.

Both teams will use the success and momentum gained during the indoor season to focus on the outdoor season ahead. As is with every year, the 2023 season is shaping up to be a grueling one. Spanning from March 24 through April 29 with the post season taking place through June 10, the team will travel nearly the entire west coast, with 11 out of the 20 meets held in California.

Colorado State will also host two meets throughout the season including the Jack Christiansen Invitational March 31 and April 1 as well as the Doug Max Invitational April 29.
