Rams earn trio of All-Mountain West honors, fourth Player of the Year and third consecutive Newcomer of the Year
LAS VEGAS – The Rams will take the court in the Mountain West Tournament on Monday with a trio of All-Mountain West selections, highlighted by the Player of the Year.
Â
Voting by the coaches deemed Colorado State's McKenna Hofschild the best of the lot, the league announced Sunday, the day the tournament began at the Thomas and Mack Center on the UNLV campus. Hofschild leads the conference in nine categories as she becomes the first Ram to earn the distinction since Ellen Nystrom in 2017 -- her second of back-to-back honors – and just the third player in program history, with Gritt Ryder being named in 2015.
Â
Destiny Thurman was a first-team selection, as well as being named the Newcomer of the Year, and Cailyn Crocker earned honorable mention recognition.
Â
Hofschild leads the league in points (609) and points per game (20.9), assist/turnover ratio (3.48), total assists (209) and assists per game (7.2), field goal attempts (427), free throws (149) and free-throw attempts (186) and minutes per game (37.17). The guard ranks second in the country in assist/turnover ratio, fifth in assists per game, sixth in total assists and 15th in points per game.

She is the only player in program history to exceed 200 assists in a season and she sits seven off matching her school record 216 total from a year ago. Her 529 career total sits second to only Nystrom (585). She also ranks second in a season in free throws and free throw attempts, also ranking in the top 10 for points. On the career list, she ranks ninth in points, seventh in free throws.
Â
Thurman makes the team averaging 13.2 points per game as well as 4.7 rebounds. One off the Rams' key defenders, she averages 30.3 minutes per game and leads the team with 36 steals. She is the third consecutive Ram to earn the newcomer honor, following Upe Atosu last season and Hofschild the year prior.
Â
Crocker, like Thurman, was another key transfer addition. She is averaging 10.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and has collected 41 assists and 18 steals.
