Christoph Bleier sits in a tie for first through 36-holes
CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A trio of Mountain West schools sits atop the leaderboard of the Lamkin Invitational after day one. Colorado State, host San Diego State, and New Mexico make up the top three with the Rams in third at 9-under, 567 through 36-holes of play. They are three strokes behind UNM and seven back of SDSU at the San Diego Country Club.
Sophomore Christoph Bleier had himself a day shooting an opening 6-under, 66 and following it up with a 3-under, 69 this afternoon. His total of 9-under 135 has him tied for first place entering tomorrow's final round. The 66 during his first 18 is his second-best round of the season.
Bleier ended his day with 11 birdies and an eagle while only recording four bogeys.
Bleier kept his team in it early on as the rest of the Colorado State lineup struggled on their front nine. The Rams turned it on the back half of the round to charge up the leaderboard and sit in second with a 3-under, 285 through 18. As teams settled into the course the second time around scores began to drop lower. CSU took three strokes off their second round score with a 6-under, 282.
Teammate Connor Jones joins him inside the top 10 tied for ninth at 3-under through 36. He shot a 1-under, 71 during his first round and took a stroke off in the second with a 2-under, 70.
One other Ram had a round under par on Monday in Gavin Hagstrom. He shot a 1-under, 71 during the second round to end up even-par for the tournament and tied for 21st.
Colorado State will play alongside its fellow Mountain West foes in Tuesday's final round. The team will tee off the first hole starting at 10:30 am MT / 9:30 am PT.
