Sofia Torres strung together four straight birdies during her round
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Sofia Torres found herself on a hot streak posting four straight birdies to start her back nine and five over six holes as she made the turn in round one of the Chattanooga Classic Sunday afternoon. The junior finished 2-under for the day with an opening round 70.
Colorado State teed off hole 10 to start their tournament and saw a slow start as no player recorded a birdie until the par 3, 17th. Torres was one of those Rams to birdie the hole and jump-start her round. She made the turn at 2-over, 38, but caught fire with a bogey-free second nine to end up with a 4-under, 32. Her strong start to the 54-hole event has her tied for third and two strokes off the lead.
Another Ram sits in the top 10 after day one in Panchalika Arphamongkol. She is tied for eighth with her 1-over, 73 on Sunday. She also went under par on her second nine with a 1-under, 35.
As a team, CSU is in sixth place following the first 18. The Rams shot an 11-over, 299, just a stroke back of Xavier for a spot in the top 5. Colorado State trails first round leader SMU by 11 strokes.
