Sofia Torres is the first Rams’ women’s golfer to compete in regionals since 2018
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Sofia Torres became the first Colorado State women's golfer to earn a trip to the regionals since 2018 when her name was called on the Golf Channel during the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday. The Colombian will head to the Westfield Regional in Indiana to compete at The Club at Chantham Hills Golf Course May 8-10.
Torres is the first CSU women's golfer since Katrina Prendergast and Ellen Secor, who each competed as individuals in 2018, to compete in a regional.
It has been a record book year for Torres. She currently has a stroke average of 72.77 which is almost a stroke better than the program record set by Pendergast in 2017-18. The junior has one win this year at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational and six top 10 finishes. The top 10 finishes are tied for the most in program history. She has posted two of the program's best single rounds this season and three top 20 all-time 54-hole scores.
Torres turned in a third place finish at the Mountain West Championships shooting a 4-under, 212 to help CSU earn their first top 3 finish since 2018.
To advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, Torres has to be the top individual not on an advancing team.
