Colorado State to honor 2023 senior class Saturday afternoon

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Track and Field team is set to wrap up its regular season outdoor schedule on its home track Saturday afternoon at the Doug Max Invitational. After the regular season concludes, the Rams will compete at the 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Championship Meet May 11-13 in Fresno, California.

Events are set to begin at 10 a.m. from the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track with the men's hammer throw as track events will begin at approximately 10:20 a.m. with the women's 5,000 meter run.

The meet will take a brief break in the action at 2 p.m. as the Colorado State coaching staff takes time to honor the 2023 senior class of Rams and all they have contributed to the track and field program.

Top senior Rams who will be competing in their final home meet on Saturday include three-time All-American Lexie Keller who is currently ranked within the top 30 of the nation's best heptathletes and currently ranked first in the Mountain West, Yolonda Johnson who currently ranks fifth in the conference in the women's 400 meter hurdles and Sharde Johnson who currently ranks first in the Mountain West in the women's high jump.

On the men's side, some senior athletes to keep an eye out for include Germain Barnes who currently ranks third in the men's 400 meter hurdles as well as Thomas Chaston and Dawson Besst who both currently sit fourth and fifth respectively in the conference in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Saturday will mark the fourth annual running of the invitational named after Doug Max, a former Colorado State student-athlete turned head coach turned administrator. Max held the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Facility Management until retiring at the end of 2020. The first running of the Doug Max Invitational was on April 14, 2019 as the Colorado State Track and Field coaching staff has intentions of honoring Max with a meet in his namesake annually after his 40 years of service to the athletic department.

Fans can follow along with all the action from the Doug Max Invitational with a live stream available on the Mountain West Network with live results found at CSURams.com.
