Sofia Torres finished in the top 25 of the Westfield Regional
WESTFIELD, Ind. – Sofia Torres concluded her historic 2022-23 season on Wednesday with a 1-under, 71 at the Westfield Regional. The junior posted the best NCAA Regional or Championship 54-hole total in program history finishing with a 1-under, 215. She matched the highest individual finish in NCAAs, placing 24th.
"We are so proud of how Sofia showed up this week. This was her first trip to regionals, and she was in the hunt the entire tournament," head coach Laura Cilek said. "She has played very solid and consistent golf all year. She had a record-breaking season, and it was so fun to see her, and all her hard work pay off. We are looking forward to her senior year starting next fall!"
Torres started her round with a quick birdie on the opening hole and played most of the day at 1-under. She bogeyed the third hole but responded with a birdie on the fourth and started a long ride on the par train.
She went on to record 12 straight pars before reaching 2-under with her birdie on the 17th hole, but bogeyed the 18th to finish at 1-under.
Torres ends the season with the best stroke average in program history at 72.67, breaking the previous record by over a full stroke. Her season included an individual medalist at the Rainbow Wahine, six top 10 finishes, and a top five finish at the Mountain West Championship.
