Former Delaware State head coach joins Rams as assistant

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – To complete her staff for the upcoming season, Colorado State women's tennis head coach Mai-Ly Tran opted for experience with the addition of Pavel Zinchenko, she announced Tuesday.

Zinchenko, who goes by 'Pasha,' has spent the past three seasons as the head women's coach at Delaware State. The former Division II All-American also has four years under his belt as a collegiate assistant to two different schools, in addition to private club experience working as the director of tennis in Barrow County, Ga., and at the Hilt Atlanta Tennis Center.

"We are thrilled to introduce Pasha as our new assistant coach.  Pasha's experience, knowledge, and passion for coaching are just some of the qualities that stood out to us," Tran said. "His ability to learn and adapt in each role he has undertaken will be a tremendous asset to us at CSU. With Pasha on board, we have confidence that our program will continue to elevate at the national level.  We are extremely excited to have him join the Ramily, and we can't wait to get started!"

In each of his three seasons at Delaware State, the Hornets showed improvement, finishing last season with a 15-8-1 mark as he led the team to its first MEAC Tournament championship match, falling to South Carolina State. It was the first time in 11 years the Hornets had won a MEAC tournament match and two of his players earned all-conference honors that season as he compiled a career record of 27-20-1 with the program.

Prior, he had served as the assistant coach for the men's and women's programs at Tabor College from 2016-2018, where he was named the ITA assistant coach of the year. He then moved on to his alma mater, Emmanuel College, where he served in the same role. That season, the women's team won the Carolinas Conference Tournament championship and played at the NCAA Division II NCAA Tournament.

Zinchenko is a USPTA certified tennis professional and will begin his duties with the program on Aug. 2.

"I am very excited to join the women's tennis coaching staff at Colorado State University and want to thank Mai-Ly for believing in my ability to help her lead the program to new victories and records," he said. "I see tremendous potential within this program and believe we will be able to establish an even stronger presence both in the Mountain West and in the nation. As soon as I stepped foot on campus, I was certain Colorado State is a special place, so I am grateful to continue my coaching career here and I couldn't be happier to be joining Ramily!"

As a player, Zinchenko was a four-year letterwinner, earning second-team National Christian College Athletic Association All-America honors in 2011-12 and 2012-23. A three-year captain, he holds three degrees from Emmanuel, receiving his bachelor's in kinesiology in 2014 and sports science in 2016. He gained a master's in business administration in 2018.

He married his wife, Nikita, in August 2019.
