What You Need to Know
- Friday's game against Kentucky will serve as Colorado State's annual White Out game where fans are encouraged to White Out Moby Arena and pack the building for the first game of the season. 2,500 free t-shirts will be handed out to students in attendance as the Rams prepare for the first night of Moby Madness this season.
- First-year Head Coach Emily Kohan will look to make waves in her inaugural season in charge as Colorado State boasts four ranked opponents and nine NCAA Tournament teams from last season on its schedule in 2023. In her eighth year at Colorado State after serving as associate head coach for seven years under former Head Coach Tom Hilbert, Kohan steps up into the role with three new assistant coaches beside her; Jess Aschenbrenner, Sonja Anderson and Jon Ferrari.
- Last weekend, the Rams traveled to Salt Lake City to play in an exhibition match against Utah. With the ability to play a pre-season exhibition match for the first time in program history, Kohan was able to test multiple different lineups and rotations ahead of opening weekend.
Scouting Opening Weekend
- Both opening weekend opponents for the Rams boast a rich history of success with Kentucky most recently claiming the 2020 National Championship trophy while Stanford has won the National Championship three out of the last seven seasons including 2016, 2018 and 2019.
- The Wildcats, coached by Head Coach Craig Skinner who enters his 19th season at the helm, begin the 2023 season as the No. 10 ranked team in the country after finishing at No. 14 in the AVCA rankings at the end of last season. The Wildcats, who have won the SEC Conference Championship each of the last six seasons, return an experienced roster to the court as they bring back six out of seven main starters from last season. Colorado State will be the Wildcats' 2023 opening game after playing Western Kentucky in an exhibition game last weekend.
- The Cardinal and Head Coach Kevin Hambly travel to Fort Collins as the No. 3 team in the nation after being knocked out of the post-season just short of the Final Four last year in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal have five National Championship trophies in the new millennium as well as 12 PAC-12 championships. Stanford returns all seven of its starters from last season with six seniors currently listed on the 2023 roster and will start its 2023 season at Northern Colorado Friday before its matchup with the Rams Saturday.

Match Notes
- The Rams return five of their seven starters from last season while adding two freshman and two transfers during the 2022 offseason.
- Returning for the Rams includes two-time All-Mountain West honoree Kennedy Stanford, 2022 All-Mountain West Honoree Naeemah Weathers, 2021 All-Mountain West honoree Karina Leber, fifth-year senior Annie Sullivan and redshirt-sophomore libero Kate Yoshimoto.
- Colorado State also added Arizona transfer Emery Herman and William & Mary transfer Anna Porter to its 2023 roster. Herman is expected to run the offense for the Rams from the setter position as the senior joined the program in January with two years of remaining eligibility. Herman will face a familiar foe Saturday as she used to compete regularly against Stanford during her time in the PAC-12 conference. Porter brings in four years of experience at the libero position and will look to add experience to the Rams' back row defense.
