Four CSU men’s golfers shoot below-par Monday

USAFA  – Colorado State men's golf went low on Monday tying with UC Davis for the best round of the day at 9-under. The performance moved CSU into second place at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite. Four Rams finished below-par as Colorado State sits at 5-under for the tournament, three strokes behind New Mexico State.

Christoph Bleier followed up his bogey-free round on Sunday with another on Monday. He was consistent through all 18 holes recording one birdie on the par 5, fifth. He now is in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard at 8-under. He is two strokes off the lead.

A pair of Rams posted matching, 3-under, 69s Monday in Connor Jones and Derek Lekkerker. The veteran Jones responded from a triple bogey on the fifth hole with back-to-back birdies. On the back nine, he strung together three more birdies and capped it off with his sixth of the round on the par 3, 17th.

Meanwhile, the freshman shaved nine strokes off his score from day one. Like Jones, he birdied holes 11-13. He finished his round going birdie, bogey, birdie, bogey to post the best round of his young collegiate career.

The strong rounds moved Jones into a tie for 22nd and Lekkerker into a tie for 36th.

Fellow freshman Jake Rodgers shot a 2-under 70. His birdies for the round came on three of the four par 3s on the Eisenhower Blue Golf Course. Rodgers is alone in 17th place entering the final 18.

Colorado State will tee off with NMSU, Wyoming and Valparaiso starting at 9:10 am Wednesday.
