Rams show moxie on second day with new pairings
COLORADO SPRINGS – Weather once again played with the schedule, with the teams starting late and eventually forced to move inside as Friday's action was limited to doubles matches.
Â
Colorado State took it all in stride, then posted some strong results at the second day of the Beford Cup at the Air Force Academy.
Â
"Our doubles teams got tested today against good competition and they did not disappoint," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "I am pleased to see them communicate better and play aggressive knowing they are doing the right things."
Â
In the first round of the consolation bracket, Radka Buzkova and Sarah Weekley beat Lisa Kung/Cielo Tapia-Cruz 6-3 of Utah State, following up with a 6-0 win over BYU's Avery Pope and Bitsy Tullis. Zara Lennon and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya also posted a win to start, topping Utah State's Zeynep Ozturk/Niyati Kukreti 6-3, then fell 6-3 to Denver's Caroline Driscoll and Louise Wikander in the next round.
Â
Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarka Richterova dropped a 7-6 (0) decision to Idaho State's Hana Cho/Sydney Morris, with Luana Avelar and Logan Voeks falling to Anastasia Simonov/Karsyn Evans of Denver, 7-5.
Â
"Sarah and Radka played really well against BYU and are showing lots of potential," Tran said. "All of our teams competed well, and it gets us excited for more matches. We are looking forward to more singles matchups tomorrow."
Â
The tournament resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. with singles and doubles play.
