Richterova Wins Pair of Matches on Day 3

Singles takes center stage at Bedford Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS – On Saturday, singles play took the stage on the third day of play at the Bedford Cup, with Sarka Richterova winning a pair of matches as Colorado State's women's tennis team won eight in all.

Playing in the Delta draw, Richterova fought out a pair of three-set victories to advance to Sunday's finals. She opened with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Megan Lang Gould, then gutted out a 6-4, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (4) win over Denver's Claudia Martinez de Velasco.

Radka Buzkova (Alpha) and Victoria Erechtchenko (Charlie) both reached the semifinals in their brackets, falling short of the finals. Buzkova opened with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Boise State's Lorelyz Marruffo before falling to Denver's Andrea Beltran 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2; Erechtchenko started with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Andrea Cuquerella of Montana State before falling to Joana Baptista of Boise State 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Sarah Weekley, Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya and Luana Avelar all went 1-1 on the day, while freshman Logan Voeks won her only match.

Weekley won 6-4, 6-4 to start against Isabella Flodin of Air Force, then falling 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) to Denver's Alice Otis in her next. Zhadzinskaya won 6-1, 6-1 against Andrea Le of AFA to start her day, then dropped a 6-4, 5-7, 26-24 affair to Idaho State's Stefanya Shalakhova. Avelar lost her first match to Denver's Karsyn Evens 6-4, 6-2, coming back with a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory over Montana State's Sydney Morris. Voeks won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 over Carissa Holguin of Air Force.
