Team Closes Out Opening Weekend

Rams come away with areas of focus
COLORADO SPRINGS – The first weekend is in the books.

Colorado State's women's tennis team closed out the Bedford Cup at the Air Force Academy with singles play, taking three of five matches on Sunday. For head coach Mai-Ly Tran, is was four days of learning, discovering and learning for her squad.

"We really enjoyed the competition and there were also close matches that tested us mentally and physically," Tran said. "It showed what we need to work on in the upcoming weeks before our next tournament. We learned more about ourselves, what we are capable of and also what may be holding us back."

Sarka Richterova reached the finals of her draw, dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Leonie Hoppe of New Mexico. Every other Ram played matches in the consolation bracket, with Radka Buzkova and Victoria Erechtchenko playing for third. It was a placing Erechtchenko earned with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lena Beckx of Idaho. Buzkova fell to Boise State's Pauline Ernstberger, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Other wins came from Luana Avelar, who topped Idaho's Saffron Dowse, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8; Logan Voeks was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Olivia Mikkelson of Idaho State.Â
