Three-day event features eight-team field
FORT COLLINS – Looking to build off the first tournament of the fall season, Colorado State's women's tennis team will do so in its own backyard, hosting the Jon Messick Invitational on Friday through Sunday.
Â
The event features eight teams, including the Rams. Friday's play begins at 10 a.m., with action starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the CSU Tennis Complex.
Â
"We are looking forward to continuing our tradition of hosting the Jon Messick Invitational. Â We feel lucky to be able to host great teams at this time in the fall," CSU head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "It gives our players a chance to play at home in front of our supporters. Â There's nothing like competing at home on our courts and we hope many people will come out to support us."
Â
Attending the event are Colorado, Iowa State, Metro State, South Dakota, Utah State, Weber State and Wyoming.
Â
Friday's schedule begins with two rounds of doubles, with one round of singles. Play will flip on Saturday with two rounds of singles, with final matches being played on Sunday.
Â
The Rams are looking to grow from the opening weekend at the Bedford Cup, matches which gave the team clues as to what to focus on with their play.
Â
"We are looking to improve after our first fall tournament. Â We got a handful of matches under our belt a week ago and we've been practicing hard on improving certain aspects of our game," Tran said. "The process has been fun working on developing our individual games and the competition will give us an opportunity to see how much we've improved."
Â
Admission is free to the public all three days. Results can be tracked at the tournament page.
