Colorado State Suffers Loss to Utah State

Rams drop second conference battle of the season in Logan
LOGAN, Utah – The Colorado State volleyball team fell to Utah State, the defending Mountain West Tournament Champions, Saturday afternoon in the Wayne Estes Center as the Rams we unable to handle to Aggies at home, dropping their second conference contest, 3-1.

The Rams fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-20, but with four team blocks and 10 attack errors committed by the Aggies, Colorado State felt good heading into the second set.

In the second, the Rams got out to an early 11-9 lead thanks to a 5-0 service run led by Kennedy Stanford. From there, another service run, this time a 6-1 run led by Ruby Kayser, put Colorado State out in front and in control of set two. The Rams held off the Aggies to tie the match up at one all with a 25-21 second-set victory.

In a back and forth third set, the set that would decide the advantage of the match, the Rams did not surrender a lead to Utah State until the score was 15-14 in the match. After that, the Aggies earned their next four points off of four consecutive error by Colorado State. Utah State would go on to win the third set 25-21 leaving the Rams in need of another fifth set match to pull out a win.

However, in the fourth, the Aggies closed out the match on a 14-2 run to win set four 25-13 and close out the match with a 3-1 win.

Top contributors for Colorado State include Malaya Jones who was the only Rams who totaled double-digit kills with 10. Karina Leber followed close behind with nine while hitting at a .444 efficiency. Emery Herman dished out 31 assists with two service aces. The Rams totaled 12 team blocks with solo blocks coming from Leber, Stanford, Jones and Annie Sullivan.

Colorado State will return to Moby Arena to continue their Mountain West schedule against San Diego State and UNLV next week. The Rams will play the Aztecs Thursday at 7 p.m. with the matchup against UNLV set for Saturday at noon in Fort Collins.
