Drew Thompson finishes second at the USATF Indoor Combined Events Championships after day one

GOLDEN  – The Colorado State track and field team finished out its time at the Mines Winter Classic Saturday afternoon as all four Rams' multis recorded a PR heptathlon finish, rounding out the top four spots as well.

Elijah Scott won the men's heptathlon at the Mines Winter Classic with a score of 5,319, a career-best score and the eighth highest score so far in the nation this season. The junior notched personal records in the 60-meter, shot put and pole vault en route to scoring 171 more points than his third-place finish score at last season's Mountain West Indoor Championships.

Mateo Munoz placed second in the men's heptathlon with a score of 4,934 which ranks 34th in the nation so far this season and third in the Mountain West. Also an overall personal best performance, the sophomore recorded PR's in the long jump, shot put and 60-meter hurdles.

Cameron Collins placed third in the men's heptathlon, completing the podium sweep for the Rams with a score of 4,807 which ranks fifth in the conference and marks the first time the junior recorded a final score over 4,800. It was an exceptional day for Collins as he recorded personal bests in six of the seven heptathlon events, good for a final score that was 281 points over his previous personal best.

Freshman Mason Adams rounded out the Rams in fourth place with a heptathlon score of 4,341. In just his second career heptathlon finish, Adams recorded an overall personal best score and PR's in the 60-meter, long jump, shot put and 60-meter hurdles.

Senior Drew Thompson also finished his heptathlon at the USA Track and Field Indoor Combined Events Championships Sunday afternoon. After four events on day one, Thompson ranked fifth with a score of 3,051. The senior finished day two posting a personal best time in the 1,000-meter run, but could not earn a mark in the pole vault, defaulting him back to a seventh place finish with a final score of 4,794.

The rest of the Rams will be back in action next weekend at the Colorado Indoor Invitational Friday February 2nd.
