Colorado State to travel large roster in preparation of Mountain West Championships

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State will be sending a full roster to the Colorado Invitational this weekend in Boulder with hopes of narrowing down its travel roster ahead of the Indoor Mountain West Championship February 22-24.
 
What you need to know:
  • The Colorado Invitational is hosted by Colorado University and will take place at the CU Indoor Practice Facility Friday and Saturday. 
  • Field events will start Friday at noon with the women kicking off pole vault and long jump both followed by the men. Triple jump, high jump, weight throw and shot put will follow.
  • Saturday's track events will start at 11 a.m. with the men competing first in the 60-meter hurdles. The track events will not be rolling and will start in accordance with the time schedule. 
  • The Mountain West Championships are less than a month away and will be hosted by New Mexico. In hopes of another championship year, Colorado State coaches will look to the Colorado Invitational to as the start of determining which 24 men and 24 women they will be sending to represent the Rams in New Mexico.
 
Meet Notes:
  • Last weekend, the Rams' multis competed in the Mines Winter Classic. Colorado State sent four men to compete in the heptathlon and two women to compete in the pentathlon.
  • The men took over the top four spots as well as all four recording personal record heptathlon scores. Elijah Scott won the men's heptathlon with a score of 5,319, a career-best and the 24th best score in the nation so far this season. Mateo Munoz placed in second with a score of 4,934 and currently ranks third in the Mountain West.
  • In third place, Cameron Collins achieved a score of 4,807 and recorded six personal bests out of the seven events he competed in. Finishing the sweep, Mason Adams ranked fourth with 4,341 points in his second career heptathlon finish. 
  • Drew Thompson competed in the USATF Indoor Combined Events Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, and finished seventh overall with a final score of 4,794. Thompson's best score this season comes from when he placed first in the heptathlon at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite with a score of 5,623.
  • Mya Lesnar has had an outstanding season so far this year including breaking the Colorado State school record in women's shot put with a mark of 18.50 meters in her first meet of the indoor season. In her last time out, Lesnar broke both the Prairie Wolf Invite meet record and the Fieldhouse record for women's weight throw with a distance of 20.24 meters. Lesnar currently sits at No. 2 in the nation for women's shot put. 
  • Michaela Hawkins broke her personal best in women's shot put in her first indoor meet of the season at the Mines Alumni Classic with a mark of 15.74 meters. Since then, Hawkins has broken her personal record in shot put once again with a mark of 15.91 meters. At the Prairie Wolf Invite, Hawkins also broke the meet record with a distance of 19.29 meters in women's weight throw.
  • Cole Nordman has seen the podium multiple times this season in the men's 60-meter dash and the men's 60-meter hurdles. Along with multiple podium placements he's PR'd twice this season, once in the 60-meter dash where he sits at No. 7 in the Colorado State record book and once in the 60-meter hurdles where he ranks No.3.
