Colorado State aims to return to win column at Boise State
BOISE, Idaho – Colorado State men's basketball looks to rebound and close its road trip out on the right foot when they take on Boise State on Tuesday night. The Rams and Broncos are set to faceoff at 7 pm on the Mountain West Network.
Opening Tip
- Colorado State dropped its first road conference game of the year at Utah State 77-72 on Saturday.
- Isaiah Stevens will take over CSU's mark for most games played on Tuesday passing former teammate Nico Carvacho's mark of 132 games.
- The Rams continue to be ranked in the polls coming in at No. 17 in the AP and No. 18 in the coaches poll. It is a program record seventh straight week ranked.
- Head coach Niko Medved is in his sixth year leading Colorado State. He is 105-65 as the Rams' head coach. The win on December 2 against Washington was the 100th for him leading the Green & Gold. Medved is now one of five coaches in the program's history to reach the 100 wins mark.
- Isaiah Stevens returns for his final year of eligibility and the nation is taking notice of the guard. Stevens was named the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, Wooden Top 50 Preseason List and one of 20 players named to the Bob Cousy Preseason Watch List.
- He sits in the top 5 for active players in both scoring (3rd) and assists (2nd).
- Stevens has three double-doubles on the year and already reset one of his own records when he posted 14 assists against Wright State. He is averaging 17.6 points, 7.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 53.1% from the field and 46.6% behind the arc.
- He became the program's all-time leading scorer against LMU (Dec. 22) when he passed Pat Durham (1985-89) and his 1,980 points.
- Stevens surpassed the 2,000 point mark with his first basket against New Mexico (Jan. 2) and currently sits at 2,038.
- He just missed out on his fourth double-double of the year against Utah State scoring 21 points to go with eight assists in the loss.
- Newcomer Joel Scott continues to be a big presence inside for CSU averaging 11.7 points and 5.7 rebounds.
- Nique Clifford has enjoyed his time in Fort Collins transferring to Colorado State from Colorado. He is shooting an impressive 59.5% from the field including 51.3% from behind the arc on his way to averaging 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds.
- Clifford is the lone player in the NCAA shooting 55-45-85 this season with a minimum of five makes a game. He is currently shooting 59.5% overall, 51.3% behind the arc and 86.1% from the charity stripe.
- Patrick Cartier missed two games for Colorado State, but since returning has not missed a beat. He is averaging 13.6 points on 61.2% shooting.
- CSU is the only program across all of collegiate men's basketball with not two, but three 2,000 point scorers on their roster. The trio is Isaiah Stevens (2,038), Patrick Cartier (2,219) and Joel Scott (2,632).
- Colorado State leads the Mountain West in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.97), assists per game (20.4), effective field goal percentage (59.7%), fastbreak points (15.60), field goal percentage (52.3%), free throw percentage (76.4%) and scoring (83.3).
Scouting the Broncos
Boise State opened Mountain West play with a 78-69 comeback win at San Jose State on Friday night. O'Mar Stanley was key for the Broncos' comeback scoring 30 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Stanley is one of four Broncos averaging double figures scoring at 12.9 ppg. Tyson Degenhart and Chibuzo Agbo lead the team with 15.3 ppg while Max Rice adds in 11.7.
Agbo is connecting on 46.3% of his 3-point attempts to rank 10th in the nation.
BSU enters Tuesday's game with a 21-game home win streak and 12 straight home Mountain West games. CSU's overtime win in 2022 was the last win by a conference opponent in Extra Mile Arena.
