Rams set to play first home conference matchups of season at Moby Arena

FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State volleyball team enters its second week of conference play, set to host San Jose State and Fresno State Thursday and Saturday at Moby Arena after starting 2-0 in the Mountain West.

What You Need to Know
  • The Rams started out 2-0 in conference play last week with wins over defending Mountain West regular season champion Utah State, 3-2, and Nevada, 3-1.
  • Thursday game against San Jose State will serve as CSU's annual inclusive excellence game focused on promoting the universities Principles of Community and on campus resource centers.
  • Saturday's game against Fresno State will be the Rams' annual State Pride game where fans are encouraged to wear their State Pride gear to cheer on the Rams who will do the same with special uniforms representing the State of Colorado Flag.
 
Scouting the Spartans and Bulldogs
  • San Jose State enters Moby Arena starting 2-0 in the Mountain West after defeating Fresno State and accepting a forfeit win from Boise State earlier last week. They boast notable wins this season against Iowa, Saint Mary's and Cal State Fullerton so far this season.
  • A strong front row presence from the Spartans has been their key to success so far this season, leading the league in kills and assists while also holding opponents to just a .109 hitting percentage on average. Nayeli Ti'a leads the Spartans in kills with 135, which ranks second in the conference behind Colorado State's Malaya Jones while setter Brooke Slusser ranks fourth in the conference with 299 total assists, behind Colorado State's Emery Herman who leads the league with 488 total.
  • Fresno State travels to Fort Collins after a 1-1 start to its conference season, defeating Boise State in five sets after falling to San Jose State in four sets early last week. So far this season, the Broncos boast wins over Grand Canyon and Southern Utah while also falling to mutual foe Colorado in three sets earlier this season.
  • This will be the first matchup between the Rams and the Bulldogs since last season's Mountain West Tournament championship game took place resulting in a five-set victory to Fresno State. The Bulldogs rank among the middle of the conference in nearly every major team stat so far this season with Ella Rud being their top producer offensively, ranking third in the conference in kills with 4.13 kills per set.
 
Match Notes
  • Fifth-year senior Naeemah Weathers was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after week one of conference play after helped lead the Rams to a 2-0 start totaling 32 kills, hitting at a .578 percentage with 39.5 total points including 14 blocks. This is Weathers' first weekly award win and the second week in a row with a weekly award winner for Colorado State.
  • As the Rams enter into October, few players had a better month of September than opposite hitter Malaya Jones. Totaling 164 kills over 10 games at a .268 hitting percentage while adding nine service aces and 21 blocks for a total of 184.5 points through September. Playing all six rotations, the redshirt senior also added 90 digs enroute to four double-doubles so far this season.
  • Fifth-year senior Emery Herman recorded 96 assists over two games last week as she continues to lead the Mountain West in assists per set at 10.17.
  • Freshman Maria Brun ranks third in the conference in service aces with 15 total, adding five more last week with two against Utah State and three against Nevada.
