Theis Notches Second-Place Finish at Colorado Springs XC Open

Graduate student places second in Ram debut.
COLORADO SPRINGS – Jaden Theis clocked a 21:30.7 to finish runner-up in her Colorado State debut, highlighting a successful day for the Rams at the Colorado Springs XC Open on Friday morning.

Theis, who transferred to the program from Michigan, was sensational in her first race in the Green and Gold. The graduate student ran an average mile of 5:46.2 across the 6k race, recording the top finish for the Rams on the day.

Abigail Petr joined Theis among the top 10 individual finishers, with the sophomore running a 22:18.9 to finish in eighth place. Rounding out the top five CSU finishers was a trio of Rams that placed 10th-12th, with Trinity Wells (22:29.4), Ava Escorcia (22:29.9) and Brooklyn Ewert (22:37.2) each finishing within 10 seconds of each other.

On the men's side, Mateo Delgadillo led the way for the men as the sophomore ran an 8k collegiate best of 25:39.2 to finish in eighth place. Finishing four spots behind Delgadillo was Calvin Banta, who clocked a time of 25:49.0, while Jake Wadas (17th, 25:56.4), Hunter Strand (31st, 26:19.9) and Reuben Holness (32nd, 26:18.8) closed out the race for the Rams.

Up next the Rams travel east for the Princeton Fall Classic on Oct. 18. This will serve as the final competition for Colorado State before the Mountain West Championship on Nov. 1.
