Rams Fall to Aztecs in Five

Jones eclipses 1,000 career kills
SAN DIEGO, Calif.– The Colorado State volleyball team fell to the San Diego State Aztecs Thursday night on the road after the Rams claimed the first two sets, dropping the final three to move to 5-2 in Mountain West conference play.

The Rams opened up the match winning set one by a score of 25-19 before taking the momentum through the match to claim set two 25-23. Through the first two frames, it was a good balance of Naeemah Weathers and Malaya Jones offensively while both teams put pressure on each others defenses with a strong serving presence.

Weathers finished the night with 14 kills at a .453 clip while Jones led Colorado State with 24 total kills. Jones' 16th kill of the night marked the 1,000th of her career, completing the feat it 74 games.

Defensively, it was the service pressure from San Diego State that not only allowed the Aztecs to gain momentum, but pull away in the final three sets, 25-21, 25-20 and 15-11.

Other key contributors for the Rams include Kennedy Stanford who finished the night with 13 kills and 10 digs, good for a double-double.

Emery Herman also totaled a double-double on the night with 51 assists and 16 kills with libero Kate Yoshimoto and defensive specialist Aine Doty also totaling double-digit digs with 15 and 10 respectively.

The Rams will continue on their road trip as they head to Las Vegas, Nevada to face UNLV Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. mountain time.
