Rams Race Past Grizzlies in Exhibition

New faces blend with returns as season approaches
FORT COLLINS – FORT COLLINS – There was a familiar winning feeling for Rams fans in Moby Arena as Colorado State took on Adams State in their exhibition game Wednesday night. The Rams took care of business 90-74 over the Grizzlies.
With 10 new faces, fans got a first look at the Ram's new starting five of Jaylen Crocker-Johnson, Ethan Morton, Kyan Evans, Jalen Lake and Nique Clifford.
Both teams took the first minutes to iron out their preseason kinks – the Rams had four quick turnovers but settled in with seven at the half and 11 for the game.
The duo of Clifford and Crocker-Johnson, a sophomore transfer from Arkansas Little Rock scored 23 points in the first half to help the team lead by nine.
Clifford provided buckets at all levels, ending with a game-high, 23 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Colorado State's defense applied pressure, forcing 13 Adams State turnovers, leading to 15 points off them and 11 on the fast break.
With back-to-back scores by sophomore forward, Rashaan Mbemba, at the start of the second half, CSU brought a significant presence outside of their starting five.
The Rams bench totaled 21 points.
Some new faces provided energy and scoring for the Rams. Crocker-Johnson scored 20 points, shooting 7-9 from the field. While Bowen Born and Morton combined for 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Senior guard, Jalen Lake was the only other Ram to reach double figures with 14 points.
The Rams open the season on Monday, Nov. 4 against North Dakota at 7:30 p.m. It is a part of a doubleheader with women's basketball which opens its season at 5:30 p.m. against San Francisco.
