Jones Tied for Second After First Round

Colorado State in sixth through the first 18 at The Prestige
LA QUINTA, Calif. – One last stroll around the course for Connor Jones. The CSU fifth-year teed-off his final spring season on Monday and is looking to go out on a high note. Jones shot a 5-under, 66 during the opening round of The Prestige at the PGA West – Norman Course to sit in a tie for second place. His round helped CSU find themselves in sixth place through 18 holes.
Jones recorded seven birdies on the day, including a pair on his closing two holes to push both himself and the Rams up the leaderboard.
Fellow upperclassmen Rasmus Hjelm and Christoph Bleier helped the Rams each shooting even par, 71s. Hjelm birdied three of four holes at the turn to help his round. Meanwhile, Bleier needed a birdie on his final hole, the 359-yard, par 3 ninth.
Jones and three other golfers trail Texas Tech's Tyran Snyders by a stroke entering Tuesday's second round. Colorado State is three strokes back of Kansas to reach the top 5 and 10 strokes back of leader Texas Tech.
