Rams Maintain Dominance at Mountain West Championships

Colorado State sits at first and second place in team points after day two of Mountain West Championships
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Colorado State finished out its second day at the Mountain West Championships with 13 Rams qualifying for the final round of track events. The women maintain their first-place spot with 77 team points and the men hold on to second with 39.

The men finished the heptathlon with both a silver and bronze finisher. Elijah Scott took home silver with a total of 5,500 points. He placed second in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:49.42. Drew Thompson finished bronze with 5,254 points and a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with 8.24 seconds. He also finished third in the 1000-meter run with 2:51.25.Â
The Rams took over the top four spots in the women's weight throw. Mya Lesnar in first with a mark of 22.06 meters, Michaela Hawkins in second with 20.45, Kajsa Borrman following closely behind with 19.52 and Gabi Morris in fourth with 19.18. Lesnar's championship mark is a personal-best for the junior as she jumps up to the 11th best mark in the nation and second best in CSU history.
Sophomore Maria Kimpson claimed the her first Mountain West Championship in the women's pole vault as the co-school record holder cleared a mark of 4.09 enroute to the individual title.
Ismael Dembele also claimed his first Mountain West medal in a Ram uniform as the sophomore finished third in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.37 meters during his Mountain West Championship debut.

Anna Petr qualified for the final round of the women's mile with a time of 4:53.02. In the 800-meter run, Yasmin Austridge will be representing the Rams in the finals after achieving a time of 2:10.16 in the preliminary round.Â

Cal Banta and Chris Henry both qualified for the final round of the men's mile run, with times of 4:12.26 and 4:12.89. Cole Nordman and PJ Robinson will both be competing in the men's 60-meter hurdles after achieving times of 8.03 and 8.15. In the 400 dash, Tom Willems with a time of 47.54 and Kenny Carpenter with 47.72 will run in the finals tomorrow.

Both Tyler Colwell and Cole Nordman will be competing in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash finals tomorrow. Colwell finished the preliminary round in both events in first place with times of 6.72 and 21.10 seconds. Nordman finished with times of 6.72 and 21.35 seconds.

Jack Cauble will also compete in the final round of the 60-meter dash after qualifying with a time of 6.81 seconds. In the 800 run, Ryan Birkmeier and Levi Killian ran 1:52.53 and 1:52.03 to qualify.Â
