Rams Deliver Perfect Opening Week

Coffin goal extends win streak to three matches
COLORADO SPRINGS  – No team will turn down a goal, or even a new goal scorer. Colorado State women's soccer team won't argue with a perfect opening week of Mountain West play, either.

With Sunday's 1-0 victory at Colorado College, the Rams opened conference play with two consecutive victories for the first time in program history, coming on the heels of a fourth consecutive goal tallied by a player scoring for the first time this season and the team's fifth clean sheet. The win was additionally the team's third straight.

In the 63rd minute at Stewart Field, Katy Coffin became the ninth different Ram to find the back of the net in 2024, doing so off the first assist of the season by Liv Stutzman. The play came off a corner kick, with the initial ball coming in low, then finding Coffin off to the right of the net where she fired off a blistering shot to beat the keeper. It was her third career goal.

The shutout was a combined effort requiring no saves. Starter Shayna Ross, who has started and played every minute since the beginning of 2023, went down with an injury after a Colorado College player ran into her while she was punching a ball out of danger. She was replaced by Libby Brooker, playing in her first career game.

The Tigers only took three shots in the game, none of them on net, as Colorado State controlled play with an aggressive defense and precision passing throughout the match.
