Invite closes regular-season competition for Rams
FORT COLLINS  – For Colorado State's four divers, the weekend represents a chance.
Â
For Maggie Di Scipio and Riley Lee, a preparation outing for the Mountain West Championships. For Makenna Post and Nelle Tobin, both freshmen, a time to leave the season on a positive note and build momentum for the next.
Â
The Rams will take part in the Air Force Diving Invitational on Jan. 30-Feb. 1. The women will open with the 1-meter springboard on Thursday, then come back for the 3-meter event on Friday, with the preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m. each day. Saturday will feature the platform, with prelims starting at 9:30 a.m. The finals will begin immediately after in all three events.
Â
There will be a live stream of each competition.
Â
Colorado State diving coach Chris Bergere knows the meet means something different to all of his divers, his only goal is each individual gains what they need from the three days.
Â
"I want to see a nice, consistent performance out of them, making the finals. Maggie and Riley should be able to do that if they have a good meet," he said. "It's a dress rehearsal for the Mountain West Championships. It's the same style, the same meet format, and I want them comfortable doing that and see it forward."
Â
Di Scipio, an All-Mountain West performer a season ago when she qualified for NCAA Zones on both springboards, is coming off her best performance of the season last weekend at Northern Colorado. Her 274.25 on the 1-meter was her first Zones cut of the season.
Â
Meanwhile, this has been a season of development for Post and Tobin, each of them having some hurdles to overcome. Bergere wants them to walk away from the weekend feeling encouraged.
Â
"Ideally, we want divers at the championships if they can show they can score points. Here's a meet dressed just like that, so moving forward, these two athletes can perform at that level and want to be at that level," he said. "Hopefully this is a meet which shows them to keep training hard and having the vision to score at the Mountain West Championships."
