Rams Close Conference Play with Draw at Wyoming

Rams find early and late productivity to put together an equal match
LARAMIE, Wyo. — Colorado State soccer (10-3-4, 4-2-3 MW) finished Mountain West play against the Wyoming Cowgirls on Thursday with a with a 3-all draw. It was the tale of two halves at the Louis S. Madrid Soccer Complex in Laramie for the 13th Border War matchup between the neighboring programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wyoming came out with an attacking look, putting pressure on the Rams early. Colorado State, used to the first minutes of pressure, responded in the box. With a trio of set pieces from the Colorado State attack, Kaja Dionne put the Rams on the board in the 14th minute on the team's first shot of the match.Â
Michaela McGowan added to the Rams' tally in the 23rd minute, her sixth goal on the season. Â Colorado State managed to keep a steady attacking pace of play through halftime, and Gray Willson kept Wyoming scoreless in the first 45 with a key save in the 45th minute.Â
Wyoming opened second-half scoring in the 57th minute with a short distance goal by Erin Dahl. Wyoming equalized two minutes later, tying the match, 2-all. The Cowgirls continued their second-half run with a goal in the 64th minute. The Rams pushed back with a pair of promising set pieces in the final 10 minutes but couldn't find the back of the net.Â
The answer was in fact Mia Casey's equalizing penalty kick in the 86th minute. The result of Thursday's match is just the second tie between the Rams and Cowgirls.
