GAME NOTES

  • Opposing offenses are in for a Long night when they play the Rams as Colorado State linebacker Owen Long leads the nation in tackles per game with 12.2. Long also holds the most total tackles among FBS players this season, racking up 122 across 10 games. The numbers have garnered national recognition as Long was named an AP Midseason All-America Second Team selection on Oct. 15. A sophomore who began the season at just 19 years old, Long was elected the youngest captain ever on a Jay Norvell coached team prior to the start of the season.
  • Colorado State's pass defense has an ace in the hole in cornerback Lemondre Joe. The grad transfer from Missouri State has been putting opposing receivers on an island and is tied for the national lead with 13 pass breakups. Deeper in the secondary, safety Jace Bellah has been a ball hawk all season long as he is tied for the second-most INTs in the nation.
  • You don't need to know ball to know that Colorado State and Rocky Beers are a match made in heaven. In addition to the name, the tight end transferred to Fort Collins for his final season of eligibility and has continued a strong tight end tradition for the Rams. The Littleton, Colo., native is second on the team in receptions (22) and is third in receiving yards (252). Beers is one receiving touchdown shy of a six pack this season, which would tie the CSU single-season record for touchdowns by a tight end.
  • Injuries have not been kind to Colorado State this season, leading to a big shake up in the depth chart. The Rams have started 24 different defensive players and 23 offensive players. When breaking down the defense, four players have started every game, making the other seven positions average nearly three players each.
  • Colorado State saw massive shakeup in the offensive line that allowed just 10 sacks and ranked No. 4 nationally in 2024. With the departures of staples Jacob Gardner, Drew Moss and Saveyon Henderson, in addition to the season-ending injury of Tanner Morley, CSU is down to just one returning starter in the front five. CSU has allowed 29.0 sacks already this season, which is among the bottom 20 in the country.
  • Despite the struggles overall for the Colorado State offense this season, the Rams have been much improved in a key area: red zone efficiency. CSU scored a touchdown on just 54.5% of red zone trips in 2024, which ranked 104th nationally. This year the Rams have found the end zone on 68.0% of trips to the red zone which is top 35 in the country. The issue has been getting to the red zone, however, with just 25 attempts (T-125th).
