From the Desk of John Weber - Welcome Coach Mora
11/26/2025 2:55:00 PM | Football
This is a momentous day for Colorado State as we start to pen the next chapter of our football program with the addition of Jim and Kathy Mora.
This decision holds so much importance for us, not only as a football program but as an athletic department with all we want to achieve in the coming decade. The hire of Coach Mora will resonate well past the confines of Canvas Stadium and impact us all.
To make the climb we eagerly embark on as Rams, we must excel on the football stage, not just as new members of the Pac-12, but under the national spotlight. Our expectations do not end with our primary goal to win conference championships, they carry forward to the idea we will be in the College Football Playoffs.
We know Coach Mora can spearhead this charge for us. Understanding all that was at stake for us at Colorado State, we undertook an exhaustive examination of our football program and what it will require to reach that status. Coach Mora's experience, commitment to excellence, and confident belief in our future are just some of the factors that when combined with Ram Country's passion, make our future together so exciting. The past two football seasons, Ram Country has helped set attendance records at Canvas Stadium. Thank you! Your support has made and will continue to make a significant difference.
The position of head football coach was highly sought. Not just for what the program has to offer but the whole university and city of Fort Collins. We are lucky enough to live in the world's best city. We are an academic powerhouse and a major tier 1 research institution featuring world-class faculty and staff. Our alumni base of more than 270,000 people, including more than 150,000 in the great state of Colorado, gives us a fantastic support system. We have a robust and engaged student population of more than 34,000 high-achieving students who bring campus and Canvas Stadium to life as we have seen during this 2025 season! Our student-athlete experience and our football team's success are important, and Coach Mora's values are consistent with these priorities.  Â
Coach Mora was our clear choice due to his extensive experience as a head coach both at the professional and college ranks, drive to win and desire to grow and serve student-athletes. He has a wide knowledge base of the sport and great network of people to help build a winning program and culture in Fort Collins like he's done in the past. Coach Mora's and Kathy's passion to win is focused not only on the football field but will extend into the community and to all those who love the Rams.Â
I am excited to see Coach Mora and his staff build upon the foundation laid by many of our Ram Legends of the past. A foundation that makes us proud to be CSU Rams and represent the Green & Gold.
I also want to express my sincere gratitude to Interim Head Coach Tyson Summers. Coach Summers joined our football program again prior to this season as defensive coordinator and then enthusiastically was willing to serve as interim head coach. He has made every decision with the best interests of our student-athletes, and he has undoubtedly made our program better. Coach Summers is an outstanding person, teammate, and coach, and I am so grateful for his leadership.
It is also important for me to thank all our football coaches and staff. Every individual has worked hard to support our student-athletes and continue to represent Colorado State University with high character.Â
On Friday, we will host our final home football game of the season. In addition to being a great in-state rivalry game against Air Force, we have the very special opportunity to recognize several senior students who are an important part of this great university. These seniors include members of our football team, football support staff, Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC, Band, Cam Handlers, and Spirit Squad. I look forward to seeing you on Friday to help celebrate these outstanding seniors!
So, join me in welcoming Jim Mora as the 25th head football coach at Colorado State. We will host a press conference on Monday, December 1 at 3 p.m. at Canvas Stadium and all fans are encouraged to attend. Please join us in making sure he has all the support necessary to reach the goals we all have for this great program. Our university and athletic department are aligned in this mission, and with your continued support, our future together is very exciting.
 As always,
Go Rams!!
