Rams Unable to Get Over the Hump Against Virginia Tech

Colorado State bigs combine for 38 of CSU’s points
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Colorado State fell to Virginia Tech, 66-64, in a closely contested matchup to open up the 2025 Battle 4 Atlantis at the Atlantis Resort on Wednesday. Despite a strong performance in the paint with 44 points, Colorado St. could not overcome Virginia Tech, which remained undefeated.

Colorado State and the Virginia Tech began the game evenly matched, with the score tied at multiple points early in the first half. Carey Booth's dunk and subsequent free throws helped Colorado State gain a brief lead. However, the Hokies' Amani Hansberry and Neoklis Avdalas propelled their team forward with a series of successful plays, including Hansberry's layup at the 10:02 mark.

As the half progressed, the Hokies' advantage grew, culminating in a 3-pointer from Avdalas with 2:08 remaining, widening the gap to 12 points. Despite Booth's last-minute efforts, including a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left, VT secured a 33-26 lead by the end of the first half.

Colorado State trailed early in the second half, but a layup by Kyle Jorgensen at 14:43 sparked a 6-0 run cutting the Virginia Tech lead to two. Tech responded with a 3-pointer from Tyler Johnson at the 11:32 mark, pushing their lead back to two posessions.

The Rams narrowed the gap to one a few times, but could never get over the hump. Jevin Muniz's 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining, brought CSU within two and the Rams had a chance with the clock winding down as Josh Pascarelli missed a game-winning three inside the final five seconds.
