Carlson's career-high scoring effort propels CSU over Texas State

LAS VEGAS — Colorado State (7-0) defeated Texas Southern (3-3), 78-54, at the Resorts World Events Center on Friday night, dominating the boards with a 55-36 rebounding advantage to remain undefeated on the season.
 
The game commenced with the Tigers' Taliyah Logwood scoring the first points on a jumper at 9:26. CSU responded quickly, with Madelyn Bragg tying the score at 9:09 with a layup. The teams exchanged leads until the Rams' McKenna Murphy sank a three-pointer at 4:00, contributing to a 10-2 run that widened their advantage. Brooke Carlson, who achieved a career-high total of 20 points, closed the first quarter with two successful free throws, securing a 28-15 lead for Colorado State.
 
Colorado State maintained its lead through the second quarter, despite TSU's efforts to close the gap. Bragg scored early with a layup at 9:44, pushing the Rams further ahead. The Tigers responded with a fast break layup by Logwood at 8:37, followed by a three-pointer from Jordyn Marshall at 6:36, narrowing the deficit. Carlson contributed to Colorado State's scoring with a layup and free throw at 2:35, keeping the home team in front. The quarter ended with a jumper from the Tigers' Marshall at 00:13, but Colorado State led 40-35.
 
The Rams extended their advantage in the third quarter, outscoring TSU 19-12. Hannah Ronsiek contributed significantly, converting four free throws, including two with 21 seconds remaining, to help maintain the lead. Kloe Froebe and Carlson added to the scoring with layups, with Carlson also securing a fast-break basket at the 3:22 mark. Despite TSU's Daeja Holmes hitting a three-pointer, Colorado State maintained control, ending the quarter up 59-47.
 
In the fourth quarter, Colorado State maintained control, outscoring TSU 19-7. Bragg contributed with a defensive rebound at 5:26, which led to Murphy's three-pointer, assisted by Lexus Bargesser, at 5:18. Murphy continued her impact, connecting on another three-pointer at 3:52 with an assist from Carlson. The team's defensive efforts were highlighted by Marta Leimane's block at 2:22 and Murphy's block at 0:02. Olivia Pawlicki closed the scoring for Colorado St. with a three-pointer at 0:14, assisted by Murphy.
