Rams recognized after another strong conference season
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Following another strong Mountain West campaign under coach Keeley Hagen, four Colorado State soccer players earned postseason recognition from the Mountain West announced Monday.
Midfielder Mia Casey was named to the All-Mountain West first team, while forward Olivia Fout was selected to the second team. Freshman defender Piper Carlson and junior midfielder Michaela McGowan were both named to the All-Newcomer team.
Casey earned her second straight first-team honor and the third All-Mountain West honor of her career. The junior from Rialto, Calif., anchored the Rams' midfield throughout conference play. She started all 10 Mountain West matches and totaled two goals and three assists for seven points. Casey ranked among the league leaders in assists while playing every single minute.
Fout, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., continued her scoring excellence by leading Colorado State in both goals and points during conference play. She appeared in nine matches and finished with four goals and one assist for nine total points, ranking among the top five scorers in the Mountain West. She ends her career in the Green & Gold earning All-Mountain West honors all three seasons, including second team in back-to-back years.
Carlson, a freshman from Lakewood, Colo., played in nine conference matches and started six as a key member of the Rams' defensive unit. She helped hold opponents to just 11 goals across 10 league contests and contributed to two shutouts.
McGowan, a junior from Broomfield, Colo., made an immediate impact in her first season with the program. She appeared in nine conference matches with six starts and matched Fout for the team lead in goals, scoring four while adding one assist for nine points.
Colorado State finished Mountain West play with a 4-2-4 record and earned its third straight appearance in the conference tournament under Hagen, who guided the Rams to the program's first national Top 25 ranking earlier this season. The Rams played San Diego State on Sunday night and lost to the Aztecs 1-0 in their Mountain West Championship matchup.
