Rams Find Bright Spots on Second Day

Colorado State picks up doubles win in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif.— The Colorado State women's tennis team continued competition Saturday at the SDSU Fall Classic as the Rams battled through another challenging slate of matches, picking up some wins in both singles and doubles play during day two of the tournament.

A trio of Rams notched victories in singles, play, all coming in straight sets. Hannah Haber needed a tiebreak in the first set to set the tone as she moved past St. Mary's Sophie Stanton, 7-6 (2), 6-3. Stella Simpson-Morgan beat Gabriella Mejia Arenas 6-3, 6-0, and Anishka Amalnathan topped Missouri's Jenna Kleynerman, 6-2, 7-5.

The Rams also found success in doubles play. Sorcha Caves, coupled with Lizarazo, teamed up for a 6-4 win over Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Mariana Zottoli. The duo have played together for much of the fall season, demonstrating high level play and growth as a team. The duo of Annika Planinsek and Hanna Haber rolled to a 6-4 win against a tandem from Mizzou.

The results reflected the team's continued progress throughout the fall season to their coach. After two days of competition, Mai-Ly Tran emphasized the importance of consistency and growth as the Rams prepare to close out their fall schedule.

"They've really embraced the idea of getting better each day, and you can see how much they've improved since day one," said Tran. "Competing against strong teams like this is exactly what helps us prepare for the spring season."

The Rams will wrap up the tournament and their fall season Sunday with the final day of play at the SDSU Fall Classic.
