Babicka claims top spot, while Munoz leads into Saturday

COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado State track and field saw a trio of multis athletes get to work on Friday at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite. The highlights of the day came from the seniors with Tereza Babicka and Mateo Munoz ending the day first in the pentathlon and heptathlon, respectively.

UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
  • Babicka, the Czech Republic native, struck first for the Rams finishing with 3,627 points and claiming the top spot. Babicka finished sixth or better in each event, including the 800 meters in which she won.
  • Munoz followed on a similar track, claiming first in the shot put and second in the 60 meters (6.99), a personal best. Sitting at 3,090 points, Munoz has a 69-point buffer heading into Saturday with three events to go.
  • The men's pole vaulters also impressed with Sam Mrky claiming the top spot from teammate Taylor Waters. Mrky set a season best at 5.00-meters/16-feet-4.75; he now sits 29th in the nation. Waters wasn't able to build on his season best but still sits fourth among NCAA freshmen after his performance last week.
LOOKING AHEAD
  • Track and field will run it back as the jumpers take the stage Saturday. Munoz and Zach Sell will also cap off the men's heptathlon.
