Petr improves upon program 3k record.
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field made some noise on Friday as it competed at both the Don Kirby Elite Invitational and the Husky Classic.
Â
Husky Classic (Seattle, Wash.)
Colorado State sent some of its top distance runners to Seattle to test their abilities at sea level, and the Rams delivered several impressive performances as a result. Anna Petr stole the show on the women's side as she shattered her own program record in the 3,000-meter, recording a 9:04.49 to surpass her previous best by over 10 seconds. Petr broke the school record earlier this season when she recorded a 9:15.11 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in December.
Â
On the men's side, Michael Mooney became just the fourth Ram ever to run a sub-eight minute 3k as he clocked a time of 7:57.67 to vault into third on the program's all-time list. Also making a strong impression in the 3k was freshman Allison Pippert, who posted a 9:34.65 to move into 12th all-time in the record books.
Â
The women's 5,000 saw a trio of new entrants into CSU's top-15 list as Kenya Dennee (16:42.84, 13th best), Kensey May (16:45.59, 15th best) and Madison King (16:52.44, 19th best) all ran career-best times.
Â
Don Kirby Elite Invitational (Albuquerque, N.M.)
Kajsa Borrman continued her impressive climb up the record book with another stellar showing in the women's weight throw. The redshirt sophomore posted yet another career high in the event, throwing 21.36m/70-1 to become just the fifth athlete in CSU history to reach the 70-feet mark. Borrman will enter the Mountain West Indoor Championships hot as the Loveland native has recorded career-highs in three-consecutive meets and has thrown nearly three feet further than any other MW athlete this season.
Â
On the men's side of the event, Kyle Bigley turned in a monster performance as he surpassed his career best by nearly two feet, throwing 20.24m/66-5 to vault into CSU's top-10 performers all-time.
Â
The women's pole vault C grouping saw a pair of Rams finish on top as Emily Adams and Ella Pickron tied for first place with a mark of 3.70m/12-1.5 – a career-best for Adams. Â
Â
In the men's high jump, local product Rhys Travis turned in the top mark of his collegiate career by clearing 2.08m/6-9.75. Travis now enters the top 10 in Ram history, where he is tied for 10th with Nick Meihaus. In the men's 200, Jack Cauble finished eighth in the unseeded field with a season-best 27.49, while Tyler Colwell (21.23) posted his best time of the season to take sixth place in the invitational.
