CSU drops conference opener 4-0
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State tennis was dealt a loss in its Mountain West opener on Friday afternoon, falling to Nevada 4-0 at the Fort Collins Country Club.
Â
The Rams (2-10, 0-1 MW) needed to win each of the two doubles courts in order to secure the point, and CSU got a good start towards that effort with the performance by Sarah Weekley and Victoria Erechtchenko on court No. 1. The two Rams breezed to a 6-0 victory, making it four-straight doubles wins for CSU's top pairing.
Â
On court two, Diana Lizarazo and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya got out to a 4-2 lead but were unable to close it out as the Wolf Pack (9-1, 1-0 MW) clawed back to win the match and secure the doubles point.
Â
Nevada continued to build momentum entering singles play, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win on court three to go up 3-0 overall. At the No. 1 position, Weekley went to battle with the Wolf Pack's top player, Amahee Charrier. After dropping the first set 6-3, Weekley battled back to force a tiebreaker in the second set, but was edged 7-2 as Charrier secured the clinching point.
