Rams Battle in First Border Dual

Colorado State falls just short against Wyoming.
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field hosted the first edition of the "Border Dual" on Saturday, a traditionally scored dual meet against Wyoming. Despite falling short, 127 to 123, Colorado State saw several personal bests and impressive individual performances, moving names up the record book and closer to national qualification.Â

- The day started with Adam Hellbom locking in a third-place finish for the Rams in the men's hammer throw 63.05-meters/206-10.25. The Ram women completed a full sweep of the event as Mya Lesnar 57.50/188-7.75, Makayla Long 56.14/184-2 and Klaire Kovatch 53.25/174-8.25 took the top three spots. Â
- In the 400 meter, three Rams claimed points with Mary Schultz finishing second place in the women's heat with a time of 56.90. On the men's side, Emmett Murphy 47.64 and Kenny Carpenter 47.74 finished first and second, respectively, claiming eight points for the green and gold. Murphy's first place finish was also a personal best 47.64.Â
- Colorado State dominated the short distance hurdles, claiming the top three in the men's 110 and top two in the women's 100. Grace Lanfear crushed her former personal best, recording a 14.48 to finish first for the women, while Cole Nordman 14.04 was victorious in the men's race.Â
- Kaylyn Heath 11.97 took first place in the 100 meter while Nordman 10.45 claimed the race on the men's side. Â
- Travis Turner set a personal best 21.16 to win the men's 200, narrowly defeating teammate Jack Cauble who also set a personal best with a time of 21.29. Turner moves to 11th all time in the history Colorado State while Cauble remains 13th.Â
- In the 400 hurdles, Jack Wetterling set a personal record of 52.56 to finish second in the event, moving him into the record book's top 20. Â
- Two Rams finished in the top three in the discus with freshman Adam Hellbom taking the top spot and Daniel Baroumbaye finishing third. Hellbom set a personal best 51.73/169-8.5 in the first-place effort. Â
- The women's shot put was won by Makayla Long with sophomore Erin Brown finishing second. Brown set a personal best 14.47/47-8.75. The men's side saw Kyle Bigley finish in second. Â
- In the men's pole vault, the Rams claimed all nine points with Justin Bate leading the way. Bate moved into the top ten all time for outdoor pole vault with a mark of 4.95/16-2.75. Following him was Sam Mrky 4.80/15-8.75 and Will Chiang 4.65/15-3.Â
- Klaire Kovatch 55.06/180-7.5 and Makayla Long 50.00/164-.05f finished first and second in the women's discus, respectively.Â
Looking Ahead.Â
- Colorado State stays at the Jack Christiansen Track for next week's Doug Max Invitational. This will be the last regular-season event of the season for the Rams and will serve as Senior Day. Â
