Four Rams took the stage in College Station.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas  – The NCAA Track and Field West Regional began Wednesday as four members of the Colorado State track and field team competed for the opportunity to advance to nationals.

After weather delays pushed back the start of the meet, the men's hammer throw kicked off the action with three Rams in the field. Leonardo Ramos was the top performer among the Colorado State cohort, throwing 62.18 meters/204-feet-0 to finish 26th out of the field of 48. Following behind Ramos was Adam Hellbom, who threw 62.16/203-1 to finish 28th, and Cameron Kalaf who placed 35th with a mark of 61.13/200-6.

The men's long jump followed suit with Mountain West Champion Ismael Dembele taking the stage. Dembele came out big with a mark of 7.21m/23-8 on his first attempt, and it proved to be his best of the day as he finished 31st among the field.

Ramos was back in action to round out the first day as he competed in the men's shot put. After an underwhelming first attempt and a scratch on the second, Ramos came in clutch on his final throw with a massive 18.50m/60-8.5 PR – the fourth-best throw in program history. The mark had him sitting in second place after the first two heats concluded, but Ramos was surpassed by the end of the final two heats and finished just outside of the qualifying line in 18th place.

The NCAA West Regional picks back up tomorrow with five Ram women set to compete. The day begins at 9:00 a.m. MT with women's hammer throw.
