Rams head home with two wins on the weekend
TAMPA, Fla. — After a nearly two-hour weather delay, Colorado State women's soccer (3-0-0) came out on the other side with a signature nonconference win, defeating South Florida (1-2-0) 1-0 on Sunday. The result capped off a perfect Florida trip and delivered the first 3-0 start in program history.
With a strong home record on the Bulls' side, the Rams managed to take USF on their own turf. With the loss, South Florida is now 15-4-1 at home since 2023. The Bulls outshot the Rams 11-6, but goalkeeper Gray Willson stood tall with four saves to earn her second straight shutout. CSU placed three shots on goal, while USF managed four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team found the opener in the first half, with Willson denying USF shots in the 20th, 38th and 41st minutes to keep the match level. Fout created CSU's best early look in the 6th minute, forcing a save from Bulls keeper Gaby Rourke. The Rams continued to rely on their defense in the second half. Midfielder Mia Massey cleared danger in the 46th minute and defender Kate Dunne stayed active all match, blocking several shot attempts. Willson added another save in the 65th minute as USF pressed forward. The breakthrough came in the 85th minute. After Michaela McGowan created space at the top of the box, she found Fout, who buried a right-footed strike into the top left corner for her third goal of the season. The defense held firm in the closing minutes to secure the 1-0 win.
CSU NOTABLES
Colorado State returns home to Ram Field on Thursday, Aug. 28, to host UTSA at 7 p.m. MT.
