FORT COLLINS - The Colorado State Volleyball team is back, set to play Colgate Friday and RV Washington Saturday, with the season just kicking off, there's a lot to look forward to.

What You Need to Know
  • Coming off a Mountain West Championship season the Rams are ready to be back on the court and keep the energy up Friday's game will serve as the regular season opener after traveling to Creighton for exhibition games earlier this fall.
  • The Rams were picked to finish second in the Mountain West Pre-Season Coaches' Poll earlier this season as they return only one starter from last season, but bring in four transfers and a strong freshman class looking to make an immediate impact.
  • Friday kicks off the 50th Season in CSU Volleyball program history.
  • Saturday's matchup against Washington will include free pizza for students as part of Welcome Back Weekend festivities.
 
Scouting the Raiders and Huskies
  • Colgate takes on Colorado State with junior outside hitter Milan Bayless being named Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year.
  • The Raiders will be coming into Friday's game on a high after being ranked first in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, led by head coach Ryan Baker in his 19th season at the helm for Colgate.
  • Colgate is coming off of a championship season in the Patriot League last year, winning both the regular season title and tournament title, falling to Kansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
  • The Huskies are facing the Rams this week after taking all four sets played from Portland in an exhibition game last Friday and are also receiving votes in the 2025 pre-season rankings.
  • Washington comes into Saturday's game with returners Emoni Bush, Kierstyn Barton and Julia Hunt all being named to Big Ten post-season accolades last fall.
  • The Huskies return under head coach Leslie Gabriel for her second season with the program after finishing ninth in the competitive Big Ten last season and making an NCAA Tournament appearance.

  • Maria Brun returns for the Rams in her sophomore season as the only returning starter for head coach Emily Kohan, totaling 101 sets played last season with 156 kills and a team leading 42 service aces.
  • Other returners for the Rams include Delaney McIntosh, Aine Doty, Kekua Richards and Jazen DeBina who all enter the role of upperclassman this season, ready to take on an elevated role.
  • Notable newcomers for the Rams include two-time Big South All-Conference recipient Eve Wilson who transferred in from High Point this spring as well as fifth year transfers Riley Simpson and Zosia Szczotkiewicz.
  • The Rams also added five true freshman to their roster ahead of this fall including Sofia Zabjek, who just finished playing with the Canadian U19 National Team this summer.
